Happy Friday friends! I thought I would recommend three books for you to read today, all of which are included in my rather long list of favourite books.
Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham
A hilarious memoir by Lena Dunham that everyone has probably heard of. Lena takes us through the experiences of growing up (falling in love, finding new friends, feeling alone, etc) in a collection of personal essays. I think some of Lena's experiences are very relatable (albeit exaggerated) to us girls, and more often then not, I found myself laughing in every chapter.
#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso
Again, probably one you've seen a lot of hype about, especially if you've been lurking around in the bookstores. At times this book is like a memoir, at times it is like a finance-focused self-help book. Regardless of what you decide to call it, I think that everyone, and I mean everyone (not just girls) should give this book a read. Sophia Amoruso takes us through her journey of petty-theft to becoming the founder and former CEO of Nasty Gal. It was interesting for me to see how she got to where she is today, but her words within the book just speak "entrepreneur". I think there is a lot to learn from her, and I have certainly taken some of her words into account. My favourite idea from her book is the fact that you and you alone are responsible for your own successes or failures. Sure, there are things that are out of your control, but it is up to you to rise above them to ensure your success.
Just One Day by Gayle Forman
This is an underrated read that I am recommending here. I think most readers know Gayle Forman's work (If I Stay), but this is most certainly a gem. It's a work of fiction, but I think most girls would benefit from reading Allyson's story of getting through a rough patch in her life. I won't spoil it, but if you're needing some inspiration to get out of a rut (whether it be with friends, school, etc), give this book a read and I think you'll really enjoy it.
Obviously my three recommendations here follow a common theme, but do you have any book recommendations for me? I am up to read anything!
Cheers!
Nancy
